PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES HAD A CLOSE CALL AT PHL
It turns out the Phillies had a closer call than most knew about last week.
CBS news in Philadelphia reports the plane carrying the Phillies from San Francisco to Philadelphia Friday morning had a close call at Philadelphia International Airport. The team was returning from three games in San Francisco and preparing to play at home against the San Francisco Giants in the National League Championship Series Game 6 on Saturday night.
The chartered plane carrying the team was seconds away from landing when an air traffic controller told another plane to move onto the runway for takeoff. The chartered plane aborted its landing and circled the airport before making a safe landing.
"The guy on final (approach) looks awfully close," the pilot on the ground said to the air traffic controller on an audio recording of the incident obtained by Eyewitness News.
The two planes were closer than Federal Aviation Administration guidelines allow.
The television report includes audio of the conversation among the two planes and the airport tower.
