AIRLINER NEARLY HITS SMALL PLANE AT ABE

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A close call at an airport north of Philadelphia.
Officials say a United Express flight had to brake and swerve at 140 miles-an-hour to avoid a small plane on the same runway.
The crew of Chicago-bound Flight 7138 spotted the Cessna four-seat propeller plane just ahead of it and aborted takeoff Friday night at Lehigh Valley International Airport in Allentown.
The planes came within 10 feet of each other.
Officials say the Cessna had just landed on the same runway but missed its exit.
No injuries were reported among the 60 United passengers or to those aboard the Cessna.
The United Express plane did not sustain any apparent damage from the aborted takeoff and taxied back to the airport. An airport official praises the pilot for what he says was absolutely extraordinary airmanship.
