US AIR TRUMPETS NEW SERVICE FROM PHL TO LONDON HEATHROW
US Airways held a party on Friday at Philadelphia International Airport to celebrate its new service to London. The ribbon-cutting ceremony included Beefeaters blaring trumpets, tea, and souvenir British flags. US Airways spokesman Phillip Gee says the airline is busting loose in celebration of its arrival at a coveted European destination:

"Currently we fly to Gatwick Airport. This London Heathrow service complements that service so we'll have now two non-stop flights a day out of Philadelphia to two different airports in London." US Airways was able to get into Heathrow because of a recent "open skies" agreement between the United States and European Union. "Before Heathrow was a slots-controlled airport. Well, it's still slots controlled, but we were able to actually purchase a slot. Prior to that we weren't able to do that."
