PHILA.-AREA AIRPORTS GETTING PA. GRANTS
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell announced the award of $12.2 million in grants on Tuesday for eight aviation projects statewide, including more than $1 million for two projects in Philadelphia and Montgomery County.
The Pottstown Municipal Airport will receive $250,000 from PennDOTís Aviation Capital Budget/Transportation Assistance Program to help fund construction of aircraft storage hangars to accommodate the airportís storage needs.
Philadelphia International Airport will receive $1 million from the program to continue the extension of runway 17-35, which is a multiyear project, aimed at decreasing delays.
The grants, which are authorized by the General Assembly and administered by PennDOTís Bureau of Aviation, are funded through state capital bond dollars in the General Fund budget.
Statewide, Pennsylvania has 133 public-use airports and heliports and 14 airports with scheduled commercial service.
